How a 2-Iron Became a 1-Iron
Oct 20, 2024At the USGA's museum in Far Hills, NJ, there are two 1-irons that belonged to Ben Hogan. One is part of a set that was donated to the museum by Valerie Hogan following his death in 1997. This set is on display in the Ben Hogan Room and is identified as the irons Hogan used during his epic 1953 season. The other 1-iron was sent to the USGA by Hogan in 1983. It is displayed as the the club Hogan is hitting in the famous Hy Peskin photograph taken on the 72nd hole of the 1950 US Open at Merion:
